Below are the basic descriptions of the Religious Education programs offered. Also, read about the programs in this flyer.
Preschool/Kindergarten Religious Education is offered for three-year-old, four-year-old, and five-year-old children. Classes for P3, P4, and K are at the Crane Road Church on Sunday mornings during all Masses and downtown at St. Patrick School during the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Kindergarten classes are also offered Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:15 - 5:30 PM at St. Patrick School and Wednesday from 4:15 - 5:30 PM. at the Crane Road Church.
Elementary Religious Education (Grades 1 - 6) provides instruction in the Catholic faith and includes spiritual formation and sacramental preparation for Holy Eucharist and Reconciliation. Classes are held downtown at St. Patrick School on Sunday morning from 9:00 - 10:15 AM and Tuesday and Wednesday after school (4:15 PM) and in the evening. Several first grade sections also meet at the Crane Road Church on Wednesday at 4:15 PM. There are also a few home-based class groups, and a home-study option is offered for those who need it.
Embracing Your Family With Jesus is a unique class for 1st through 6th grade students and their parents - at least one parent must attend a bi-monthly class with their child. An alternative to regular CCD classes, Embracing Your Family with Jesus is an opportunity for your family to embrace the message of Jesus in the classroom, then live the message at home as a family.
Lazarus House Project provides all 6th grade students an opportunity to find Christ by serving residents of Lazarus House, a homeless shelter in the tri-city community (St. Charles, Geneva, and Batavia).
Special Religious Education is offered to young people with certain learning challenges. SPIRIT (Special Persons In Religious Integrated Training) is a program within the CCD framework that serves students beyond the primary grades. A self-contained group meets with experienced teachers, or, according to need, students may be mainstreamed with a personal aide.
Vacation Bible School is usually held the last week of June at the Crane Road Church. Four-year-olds to beginning 5th graders are invited to attend this fun week. Please check the church bulletin mid-May for details. Adults and students (6th grade and up) are welcome as helpers.
Children and Young At Heart (CYAH) is a volunteer group dedicated to active participation of the children and youth of St. Patrick's Parish in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Celebrant of the 11:30 a.m. Sunday CYAH Mass is assisted by the youth laity of the Parish for announcements, readings, offerings, ushering, greeting, cantering, presentation of gifts, Eucharistic Ministry and occasionally the Homily message by way of a skit performance. The group is committed to interactive participation by the youth to spread the Lord's message to the entire congregation and is always seeking new participants. We hope to CYAH {see ya} at Mass! Grades 7 - 9 Who Is Jesus, Who Am I?
The aim of the Religious Education Program for grades 7 - 9, is to teach the Life of Christ and of the early Church through studying the Bible, meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary and journaling about our personal experiences with Jesus in prayer. The program emphasizes the importance of forming a personal relationship with God. The Eucharist, Mary, the saints and the holy sacraments are the tools God has given to us to forge this relationship and are gifts that make us distinctly Catholic! Classes are held on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Confirmation - Who Is the Holy Spirit?
Ninth grade is the first year of a two-year Confirmation Program. Students are typically confirmed in 10th grade. During this Sacramental Year, the program focuses on the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Eucharist, as well as the application of Catholic Moral teachings to our daily lives. Classes are held on Sundays.
Family Faith Fest
"Parents are the Primary Educators of Their Children." - Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Parent participation is the key to success! Regardless of the program or year, in one way or another, all parents are required to be actively involved in handing on their Catholic Faith to their child. For example, Family Faith Fest is a very popular, monthly program where both parents and students attend separate classes, complete assignments at home, and return the following month for further instruction. In addition, home-study and classes in the home of a catechist are also available at certain grade levels. For more information contact the Jr. High & High School Confirmation Office at (630) 513-2245.
