What's Baptismal Preparation Like?

Baptismal preparation at St. Pat’s for parents of a child who is to be baptized includes one Baptismal Preparation Session here at the Parish. This class is offered one Monday a month from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, or one Sunday a month from 10:30am to 11:30am (directly following the 9:30am Mass). You can register for your Baptism Prep via the form below or by calling the office.

If this is your first child being baptized at St. Pat’s, we ask that you attend this preparation session, either in person or virtually. Virtual preparation will consist of attending the in person gathering via a video conference as well as speaking on the phone or over a video call with a member of the baptism preparation team. Click the button below to preview the calendar of upcoming sessions!

In addition to this session, all families will be provided with resources to help the parents journey towards this Sacrament, being prepared to welcome their child into the faith and raise them as children of the Father.

The Sacrament of Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is offered on Sundays at ________. When you fill out the form below or call the Parish office, you will be able to choose the Sunday when your child will be baptized!

Godparents 101

The role of a godparent is vital in the life of a Catholic. A godparent is chosen to stand, beside the parents, as a witness to the faith into which the child is being baptized. As such, there are certain requirements for any Godparent:

  • All baptized people must have at least one godparent and may have both a male and a female godparent
  • The minimum age is 16
  • A godparent must be a Catholic who has been confirmed, received First Holy Communion, and lives a life of faith in accord with the role they are undertaking
  • A godparent must not be the mother or father of the one being baptized

If the family desires, there may be one godparent and one Christian witness, meaning a person who does not meet the above requirements but will stand with the parents as a witness to the Sacrament taking place.
